As a freelance photojournalist, and US Army veteran, I embedded alongside US soldiers of the 82nd Airborne and 25th Infantry in Iraq several times over three consecutive summers.
The 160-page, full-color book, "Can't Give This War Away: Three Iraqi Summers of Change and Conflict," documents this time I spent with soldiers overseas, and some of the missions and moments they experienced, and perspectives they attained.
The book is newly available as a series of Kindle-compatible e-books from Amazon. Each e-book is the full text of a chapter, with a few of the pictures.
Chapter One starts with "Break Beneath a Bridge," for just $1.99. Subsequent chapters are from .99 to $1.99.
The book appears much differently in it's full-color, printed format. Preview the beginnings of each of the book's chapters here: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2427803
A full-color, high-quality paper, bookstore-quality softcover printed edition is available for $85 (inc. shipping).
The book is also available from me as a complete PDF download with ALL text and pictures for $25.

The printed book is available for purchase at $85. It's expensive, but the book is not truly 'published' by a mainstream publisher. I designed, wrote and photographed it myself, and now offer for sale a 160-page professionally printed, photo-heavy book.
Soldiers featured in the book can order a special edition using my photos of them in a dedicated, unique format - so email me at rahfa@comcast.net to ask about it.
I am using this self-produced book to try and generate interest from agents and publishers to tell these stories to a nationwide audience, just like I did with my newspaper reporting and photography.
Since it's self-designed and not mass-produced, the printed book is expensive - much more than you would pay for a similar book in a bookstore! But for every two books I can sell this way, I can produce a third book that I can then send to publishers and agents, as I try to tell these soldier's stories. So your purchase directly supports independent journalism - while providing you the reader with up-close stories and photographs of soldiers at war.
If you like the excerpts, I hope you think about purchasing the full book. The E-Book edition is complete, just not printed.
I've endeavored to tell the soldiers stories. While the book is 'first person,' it's not my memoir; I am the narrator to a brief period of time experienced by soldiers of the 82nd Airborne and 25th Infantry.
