" NEW BEDFORD — After the November election, Democrats will push for a second economic stimulus package that includes money for the states' stalled infrastructure projects, along with help paying for healthcare expenses, food stamps and extended unemployment benefits, U.S. Rep. Barney Frank said Thursday.
In a meeting with the editorial board of The Standard-Times, Rep. Frank, D-Mass., also called for a 25 percent cut in military spending, saying the Pentagon has to start choosing from its many weapons programs, and that upper-income taxpayers are going to see an increase in what they are asked to pay."
Someone needs to tell Barney Frank, the election has not yet occurred, even if the polls say "The Party" will have absolute power come January.
This is a dangerous course of action which Rep. Frank appears to believe is a done deal. The polls currently indicate an Obama landslide, a SuperMajority in the Senate and significant gains for "The Party" in the House of Representatives.
I try to stay away from direct commentary on Politics and Parties to the extent that I am able but this is a monumental election with significant consequences to our National Security as well as the future of our economic system. As demonstrated on these pages, we are at War against a brutal enemy in two Nations.
In Iraq, we have achieved Sustained Successes due to the Petraeus Plan which was consistently opposed by key members and the majority of the DNC. We have turned over the primary responsibility of Security to Iraqis in 12 of 18 provinces. Violence has been significantly reduced.
But we have streched our Military far beyond expectations to achieve that fragile Victory. While we are currently on the verge of the probability of a drawdown in Iraq, this is the wrong time to be calling for massive cuts in the Military.
The DNC has controlled Congress for the last two years, the resullt of an anti-war backlash against the Republican Party, which to its credit has in large part supported National Victory, though many members of that party has been tepid in that support. There are members of both parties that need to be sent home.
But we must look at who has supported General Petraeus and his plan for Victory and who has opposed even recognition of the Sustained Successes of his plan. We must remember who has betrayed the American People and Our Troops by attempting to demoralize the Troops and undermine support of the Mission with a constant barrage of only stories of enemy victories.
We, as a Nation, cannot afford to give absolute power to any party, not even "The Party." We cannot afford to allow Rep Frank-D the ability to scrap our Military in a time of War. But if the predictions of the polls today become the reality of November 5th, a SuperMajority in the Sen. Reid ruled Senate, an increased majority in the Pelosi ruled House of Reprehensibles, and an Obama Presidency, the same Rep. Frank, that engineered the Mortgage Crisis, authored the $700 Billion Bailout Bill, and pushed through the $700 Billion Bailout Bill will have the political weight to push through a 25% Cut in Military Spending in a time of war, with our Troops already stretched thin.
Most of us have 3 critical votes on November 4th (or before). Your vote should be on the issues, not the party but we need to look at the records of those 3 politicians that have been paid by Corporations and the Rich to buy airtime to sloganeer your vote. I put forth that the Most Important Issue is National Security, specifically the War On Terror, and within it the Support for the Mission in Iraq. While my readers come from across the Nation, I cannot recommend specific legislators in your area, but I cannot recommend the presidential nominee who has opposed Victory consistently for his entire unfinished first term in office.
Of his party, I can recommend Senator Lieberman-D-CT and Rep Marshall-D-GA. In the party of McCain, whom I can recommend, I can recommend Rep. Blackburn, R-TN. These are politicians that have put Nation before party, before their own ambitions. These are Representatives of the People who have put The Troops and Veterans First. I'm sure there are more that have done so, but these are the ones with records clear enough that I can get behind.
UPDATE: Unsurprisingly, we see The Party moving forward on this.
