Oh, just imagine my astonishment! Here I am perusing the pages of allies, patriots and more and find out that Ms Hope, a contributor here on WOTN, is backing a different horse in the race of the year: The Marine Corps Marathon. My reaction would have been: "It's On!" but she managed to time it so that I'd be out of the loop and unable to do much about it. Worse yet, her horse already has a near 2 to 1 advantage on mine.
Ok, I probably shouldn't refer to Marines as Horses, but in this case it's an apt analogy. For one, they're running a Marathon. For another, they're running it to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund. But the fact is I've done a horrible job in marketing my horse in this race. Sure, I gave the White Family my full fledged commitment to any and all advertising commissions (that's pretty slim pickings) we draw during the time period from when he declared until when he runs. But I've not been very convincing in asking others to drop some cash in his proverbial bucket.
So, with the stroke of the keypad, I've learned that there's another race on, that my Texas Contributor is backing another horse, and that her horse is already raising his goals for donations, even as he exceeds his first one. And Ms Hope helped do that. And all this comes as I lose my internet connection for a while.
For "educational purposes only," I'll post a link to the donations of her Marathoner, but remember readers and fans of War On Terror News should be backing OUR Marathoner. If you donate, we are urging it be in multiples of a penny a mile. A penny a mile is $26.20 and our initial donation was 4 cents/mile or $104.80, which also happens to be a penny for each mile ran by the total team of 4: 104.8 miles ran by 4 runners, each running 26.2 miles. It isn't even close to the number of training miles.
Oh, and Ravee's donation page features a picture of SGT TJ Edwards, who has been featured here and in our spinoff site: Overcoming Adversity! It's a great pic, even if we don't have a copy of it.
As of this writing Ravee has raised $1,004 while the White Family has raised $504.80 Warriors are by their very nature competitive and that shines through in Interservice Rivalries. Whether you donate through the Ravee page or the White page, it still goes to the Semper Fi Fund, which is doing great things. Jon White may be the dark horse in the race for donations, at the moment, but don't count him out. When it comes to the Marathon, I'm betting on him to cross the finish line ahead of Ravee. Why? The White Family ran it last year and knows what it takes. Ravee is running it for the first time.
But don't bank on $1500 or $1000 being their final goals in donations. These two Marines are all about raising goals when they achieve the last one. I'd make a joke about jarheads, but I only do that when I'm surrounded and outnumbered. It's not sporting otherwise. But seriously, I have a lot of respect for my Marine Brothers and perhaps I should go find more Soldiers to spotlight, since we have demonstrated so many Honorable Marines that continue to live by the motto: Semper Fidelis.
And oh, she has help in her backing of the wrong horse: SGT Grumpy. So if you can add a little help on YOUR site for Our Horse, please tell the world about all that Jon White and his family is doing and ask your friends and family and readers to help out the Semper Fi Fund through the efforts of One Marine that Refused Orders to sit in a wheel chair the rest of his life.
Bet on the White Horse Family! The Latest Update on their progress.
