WOTN Note: 6 Years Ago, this Marine was sentenced to a wheel chair. This Year, he'll Complete the Marine Corps Marathon for the 2nd Time since then. In between, multiple combat zones. This is a Marine you should know. He's a Real NCO, taking care of Marines, no matter how far he must go to do so. (Multiple Links at the end.)
13 Sept Update 15 miles 2:25:05
Joshua and I have learned through trial and error how to prep for the long run.
Rest, hydrate, carb up the day before.
Morning of get dressed and don't forget the nipple guards! 15 mins prior "Gel up" and go.
As you know by now our team consists of 4 that actually train together; Josh, Rene, Dave and me. Miguel is stationed in Cuba and is also on our team. He is training alone and will join us for the race. Josh and I are the only one's that have run a marathon so we are sharing what we know, especially the mistakes we made during our previous year.
Today's lesson was on how to use "Gel" and when to and what to expect from a shot of liquid nitrogen. Dave ran the fastest he's run in 20 years. I just smiled because our first 8 mile run, Dave said he didn't think he had it in him.
Dave and the rest of our team will do fine we have more miles to cover and I got a flat on my go-fasters (Marine for running shoes) so I got a new pair on the way. Right on schedule.
Thanks for the support and keep us in your prayers.
Jon
I "HAD" to email Jon and ask about a few details of this update, I mean, really! Nipple guards? Gel up? Okay, anybody who is a runner wouldn't blink an eye at those terms, but this Mom was suspicious!!
Jon established himself last year when he said he would run his first marathon AND said he would raise money for Team Semper Fi Fund. He did complete the run and he did raise MORE money than he thought possible.
Last year Jon raised roughly $6,000 which was substantially more than his original stated goal of $1,000 because of readers like YOU! Because of a group of business owners and dealers, [just 12 hrs before the race started, NAPA contributed $3.8 thousand] thank you NAPA, who believed in Jon and the need to help support the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
This year, Jon is way behind on his fundraising efforts. Why? It could be the economy. It could be we are not reaching the right people with our articles. It could be many things!
YOU could be instrumental in helping Jon and his team of runners succeed in their fundraiser by passing along this information to your friends. Networking is very important in getting the word out there.
I will guarantee you this, no matter how much he raises, Jon is training for a faster marathon than last year! He will succeed! He will succeed because his motives are pure. "I run for those who can't!"
Jon has faith that he will succeed both in a faster time and in dollars raised for Injured Marine Semper Fi fund. The need is great. Giving back to a wounded warrior? Giving back to one who stepped forward to stand between us and those wishing us harm?
Priceless!!
