Monday, November 8th, 2010 VOA News At least 14 people are dead after two car bombs struck Iraq’s holy Shi’ite cities of Karbala and Najaf.
Police and officials say at least 40 people were injured, many of them Iranian pilgrims.
In Karbala, a car bomb exploded near an entrance to the city — killing seven people, including four Iranians.
Hours later, a second car bomb
Thousands of pilgrims from predominantly Shi’ite Iran visit Iraq’s holy Shi’ite shrines every year.
They are often targeted by Sunni militants groups.
The attacks come as Iraqi politicians gather in the northern city of Irbil, in an attempt to form a new government. The country has been in a political deadlock since inconclusive parliamentary elections in March.
