Lieutenant General Curtis Scaparrotti
Commander, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command and Deputy Commander, U.S. Forces – Afghanistan
Lieutenant General Scaparrotti assumed command of the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command and Deputy Commander, U.S. Forces – Afghanistan on July 11, 2011.
Previously he served as the Commanding General of I Corps and Joint Base Lewis-McChord after serving for two years as the Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division. During that time, he deployed to Afghanistan as the Commanding General of Joint Task Force-82 in Eastern Afghanistan.
In addition to the assignments noted above, Lieutenant General Scaparrotti has served in several key leadership positions at the tactical, operational, and strategic level in the United States military.
As the Assistant Division Commander for the 1st Armored Division, Lieutenant General Scaparrotti deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, he commanded 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division and 3rd Battalion, 325th Airborne Combat Team. As a Commander, he participated in Operations Support Hope in Zaire/Rwanda, Joint Endeavor in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Assured Response in Liberia.
Lieutenant General Scaparrotti was commissioned into the Infantry in June 1978 after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Additional studies include Administrative Education at the University of South Carolina, where he earned his Master of Education, the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and The United States Army War College.
He is married to the former Cindy Bateman of Logan, Ohio and has two grown children.
