Memorial Day, is a day of remembrance, a day to spend time with your family and friends, camping, fishing, picnics and celebrations
Perhaps you will remember to spend a moment today, in remembrance of those who have given so much for each and everyone of us, even though we most likely will not have known them at all.
In a moment in time, a bullet struck, a helicopter crashed, a bomb went off, a grenade exploded. In a moment in time, a knock on the door will be remembered forever in the minds of a parent, a family member. In a moment in time a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine became a special kind of hero. One who was no longer able to come home safe and sound to his waiting loved ones.
Take a moment in time on Memorial Day to realize that these heroes have given so much for our fine country.
They are what makes this country great! They are the backbone of our way of life. Without the men and women who have fought over the years for the preservation of good over evil, freedom over oppression we would not be THE Greatest Country in the world today!! Some paid the ultimate price for their belief in a greater good.
Yes, heroes they are, each and every person who has ever worn the uniform. In past wars, our country gave these brave men and women no choice, their service was expected of them. In today’s war in Iraq, and over in Afghanistan, Kosovo and other places around the world, our military is there by choice! Their choice! There is no draft now and never has been since that long ago, but not forgotten day, September 11, 2001.
Honor our fallen with a moment in time! Be it only a minute spent in quietness at 3pm as our President has asked, or in a parade whether watching or walking, a drive past the graveyard with all its flag fluttering proudly, take a moment of YOUR time and remember them.
Pay that remembrance forward by showing respect for those who currently serve. Send a smile of acknowledgement their way, a handshake, picking up the tab for a meal or a drink, just saying thanks!
Spend a moment of your time!
