Give an Hour organization is a group of mental health professionals who have agreed to donate an hour of their time in order to provide counseling services to our men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The service is also available to their families, as well.
Amazingly enough, this program has been around since June 2007 and this is the first I have heard of it.
The providers are licensed mental health professionals who have signed a contract to provide this service for one year, for free, within their areas of expertise. The service each provides is one hour per week for free for one year.
What does Give an Hour ask back from you for providing this network of available services? They believe that people benefit from giving back to others, to their communities through volunteer work. What they will do is connect you with organizations within your own community who are in need of volunteers. I like the idea that you can pay forward that gift of free counseling by volunteering your own time in your community or surrounding area. You can give back an hour of your own time in your area of knowledge.
Give an Hour teamed up with Returning Heroes Counseling Network to provide this service to you for free! Remember, the paying forward after your use of their services is entirely voluntary. It is not a condition of receiving the services.
