What is it?
This program was developed to provide our wounded warriors with uniform
alterations and modifications at no cost to them according to injuries
sustained in combat operations. Wounded warriors who utilize the program can
also receive special footwear according to injuries. The program is being
implemented at Walter Reed and Brooke Army Medical Centers - where 99
percent of injured Soldiers receive care - in order for Soldiers to take
advantage of its services before they complete their recovery treatment.
Many military organizations collaborated over the past months to establish
and launch this beneficial program, to include the Department of the Army,
offices of the deputy chief of staff, G-4, G-3 and G-1, Clothing and
Heraldry Services Office (CSO), Army-Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES),
Walter Reed and Brooke Army Medical Centers (WRAMC, BAMC), Army Wounded
Warriors program managers, Army Medical Department, office of the Surgeon
General and the non-profit organization Sew Much Comfort.
Why is this important to the Army?
The WWCSP supports the Army's commitment to taking care of its own. Our
wounded warriors have sacrificed much in service to our nation. We owe it to
them to provide the best support possible as they receive care and go
through the recovery process.
What has the Army done?
The Army G-4 in partnership with CSO, AAFES and WRAMC has established an
enterprise solution to perform alterations and modifications of wounded
warrior's uniforms at WRAMC and BAMC.
The Army has implemented the establishment of a line of funding within the
warrior transition brigades to purchase special footwear for those Soldiers
who have sustained loss of lower extremities.
The WWCSP is beginning today at WRAMC's Wagner Gymnasium and will begin at
BAMC on June 30, 2008. AAFES expects to be able to provide this service at
all their locations by August 2008.
