I don’t quite know where to start in writing about all the good things that are happening here for our men and women who are severely wounded. What is the Wounded Warrior Project?
Let’s start with their founding principle; they feel that our veteran’s are this nation’s greatest citizens. Stop and think about that. These are the same people who put their lives on the line to protect this country, OUR freedoms defending against all comers! I doubt anyone would disagree with this principle.
The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) started out small, as many of the greatest nonprofits do. In fact, it grew out of a small group of veterans and brothers, who decided to put their desire to help into action. What spurred them on to act? From watching the news regarding our returning veterans, our severely wounded, on the television their call to action began.
How could they make a difference in the lives of our returning wounded? By sending one simple item to the hospitals where our severely wounded warriors lay healing. One item filled to the brim with “essential care and comfort items. What was that item? A backpack, and not just any backpack.
“Wounded Warrior Backpacks contain essential care and comfort items including clothing, toiletries, calling card, CD player, and playing cards, all designed to make their hospital stay more comfortable. They are provided to severely wounded service members arriving at military trauma centers. A smaller version of the WWP Backpack, Transitional Care Packs are sent directly to Iraq and Afghanistan to provide immediate comfort during a warrior’s relocation to the U.S. military trauma center.” https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/content/view/424/890/
From this start with the Wounded Warrior Backpacks, the organization has grown to provide the following services:
WWP Peer Mentoring
Coping with Combat Stress Seminars
Project Odyssey
Family Assistance
Benefits Counseling
Warriors to Work
Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project
WWP Outdoors
WWP Alumni
They do not ask for member dues because those who are eligible for membership have already paid their dues on the battlefield.
OnTrack
WWP Soldier Ride
In addition to all of these areas listed above, the Wounded Warrior Project has made sure that those who have sacrificed so much for this great nation, so that their stories of courage and determination will live on with the building of the WWP Sacrifice Center.
In order to bring to us their stories of courage and determination, to allow us to see the success these warriors achieved in moving past adversity, the WWP Sacrifice Center was built. They bring us along the road traveled from the day of enlisting in the military, the decisions behind this journey to the present day and their triumph in overcoming severe injuries which might have kept them down, but didn’t. Thanks in great part to the efforts of the Wounded Warrior Project.
This charity is supported by the War On Terror News site. We think it is a great one, and you should strongly consider supporting them also.
