Thank You Those Who've Helped our Marines

How did the efforts to help our Marines in their time of adversity come about? Well, it began with a Blue Star Family talking to a former Marine, who happens to be a contributor to this page.

MarineTillDeath took the ball and ran with it. He not only got the news out on this page but also on his multiply page. He convinced other members of multiply to run it on their page, many of these pages pointed to this one for the latest updates. It was in fact his efforts that convinced Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive to point Supporters of the Troops to the article here.

The effort is not complete. The Family Support Group is just now receiving the first wave of supplies for our troops. There has been a learning curve in this. There is certainly a need for greater coordination within the blogger community. The FSG is understandably busy with their efforts and it is not beneficial to have 100 emails directly to them. It’s not a control issue but it is. One person should be in contact with the FSG and the bloggers can update from that person.

In the future, we need to ensure there is a central point, in contact with the troops in need and directing the efforts towards the needs, as well as identifying the items pledged for shipment. Additionally, we need to begin with a basic list of needs and then update it as pledges are made.

The ball that was dropped in this effort was dropped by me. And I promise to do a better job if such a need is identified in the future. Frankly, it does not matter to me if my site or another site is primary point of information. It’s the Mission, not the hit count that is important. It’s not about the glory of proving who did the most, but satisfaction in knowing that the Troops are taken care of.

I can not honestly accept the credit for those efforts, nor can I know who all has come out in support of these Marines in their time of adversity. What I do know is that there were many and that the links below were involved in addition to many others.

Many of these links require a membership and some even require a personal link to the site that supported the effort. As such, I am not even certain of all the sites themselves other than knowing they pointed to the effort.
