WASHINGTON, Nov. 24, 2008 – In his 2008 Thanksgiving Day message released today, Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, noted the wartime similarities between today and the proclamation of the national holiday 140 years ago.

USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT, At Sea (NNS) -- USS Theodore Roosevelt (TR) (CVN 71) hosted Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander, U.S. Central Command, Nov. 27-28 to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with the crew.
Petraeus, along with Commander 5th Fleet, Vice Adm. William E. Gortney,
visited the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, currently deployed to the
5th Fleet area of responsibility.
ISAF soldiers at Camp Stone celebrate Thanksgiving

KABUL, Afghanistan — U.S. service members, contractors, civilians and international military guests celebrated Thanksgiving at Camp Stone in western Afghanistan Nov. 27.
As the dining facility opened its doors, a long line of people had already formed in anticipation of the Thanksgiving meal prepared inside. Upon entering, guests were welcomed by base commanders and leaders carving the turkeys and serving side dishes.
