KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan motorcyclist was fatally wounded by Afghan national security force and international security and assistance force troops yesterday in Sayed Abad District, Wardak province, after speeding toward an ANSF-ISAF checkpoint, despite repeated warnings to stop.
In the incident, ANSF and ISAF troops manning a traffic control point observed a motorcycle approaching their position. Following ISAF procedure, ANSF and ISAF personnel warned the driver repeatedly to stop, using visual and verbal signals and then warning shots.
Despite these signals, the motorcyclist accelerated and sped directly towards the ANSF and ISAF troops,
who then fired at the driver, wounding him. ISAF troops provided medical aid at the scene, transporting the wounded man by helicopter to an ISAF medical facility, where he later died. ISAF values the lives of all Afghans, and took every precaution to prevent this incident from occurring.
Importantly, an investigation has also commenced into the circumstances of the incident.
