TIKRIT, Iraq – Mosul Iraqi Special Operations Forces units with Coalition forces advisors arrested two suspected terrorist cell members operating in the Ninewa Province during a joint operation April 22.
Mosul ISOF, partnered with the Regional Reconnaissance Team, split to form two teams and dispersed to separate locations to arrest suspected terrorists on warrants issued by the Central Criminal Court of Iraq.
“This operation demonstrates the capability of ISOF and RRT to plan and execute synchronized battalion-level operations throughout the region to detain insurgent leaders and cells,” said the ground forces commander.
According to Iraqi sources, one team traveled to Mosul to arrest an alleged intelligence official from a Mosul terrorist network, while the other traveled to Nimrud to arrest a suspect associated with roadside bomb attacks against Iraqi Security Forces and CF.
“There was close integration of ISOF units throughout all stages of mission development and execution,” said the CF advisor. “ISOF continues to rapidly progress toward independent, precision operations to enhance the security and stability of Ninewa Province.”
Detaining these individuals should result in follow-on target opportunities and provide actionable information on key terrorist personalities operating in the region, said an ISOF Soldier.
