Afghan, coalition forces kill four militants, detain five in Logar; detain five in Khost
Kabul, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces killed four militants and detained 10 suspects during operations early today to disrupt Haqqani and al Qaida network operations in Logar and Khost Provinces, respectively.
In Bala Qal’eh ye Vazir, a rural village near Pul-e-Alam, Logar province, approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Kabul, a combined force raided a compound to capture a Haqqani commander responsible for planning improvised explosive device attacks and facilitating suicide bombers in Logar.
When forces entered the targeted compound, Afghan forces called out for all non-combatants to exit the buildings peacefully. Approximately 30 women and children complied and were moved to a safe area enabling forces to search the compound. In one building, forces encountered men who were barricaded and armed. The subsequent engagement resulted in four militants killed. Forces detained five suspects without further incident.
In Khost city, during a separate operation to disrupt militant operations in eastern Afghanistan, a combined force patrolled to a neighborhood to capture insurgents associated with al Qaida. Afghan forces led the search of a building with the cooperation of the residents, and without incident, detained five suspected militants. Forces found and removed two grenades in the building, preventing their use against civilians or security forces.
