Assistance for Diyala vehicle accident victims underway
Multi-National Division – North PAO - FORWARD OPERATING BASE WARHORSE, DIYALA, Iraq – A claims process is being expedited regarding a car accident in which one Iraqi civilian was killed and three injured in a collision with a U.S. Army military vehicle July 26 in Diyala province.
The U.S. Army commander of the Soldiers involved in the accident met with the Mayor of Mandali following the incident to discuss the circumstances of the accident and the steps currently underway in order to help the families of the victims.
“Our thoughts and prayers certainly go out the victims of this accident,” said 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division spokesman, Maj. Chris Hyde.

A U.S. Stryker vehicle attempted to avoid the car that had come to an abrupt stop directly in front of it, but ultimately struck the car and then rolled over as it went off the road east of Balad Ruz.
Two Iraqi men and one child were reported injured in the incident, along with two U.S. Soldiers injured in the vehicle roll-over.
All civilian injuries were immediately treated, and Iraqi Police assisted with transporting the casualties to a local medical facility for care.
In accordance with the Security Agreement, the U.S. Soldiers with the unit operating the vehicle had conducted a combined patrol with Iraqi Security Forces, and the convoy was returning to the U.S. base outside the city when the accident occurred.
U.S. Army officials are currently coordinating to conduct a formal investigation into this incident.
