BAGHDAD – Iraqi Security Forces arrested two wanted al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) explosives-cell members and 11 suspected criminal associates today during three joint security operations conducted in Baghdad and northern Iraq.
In western Baghdad, ISF and U.S. advisors searched a residential building for an AQI explosives-cell member who assists in the transportation of money and explosives for the terrorist organization into Abu Ghraib.
Based on the results of preliminary questioning and evidence discovered on scene, ISF identified and arrested the wanted AQI member and three suspected criminal accomplices.
During a separate security operation conducted near Haditha, located approximately 204 km northwest of Baghdad, ISF and U.S. advisors searched several buildings for a suspected AQI explosives-cell member who assists in transporting explosives into the area.
After examining evidence collected at the scene, ISF identified and arrested the wanted individual and four suspected criminal accomplices.
During a third security operation conducted in Baqubah, located approximately 49 km northeast of Baghdad, the 3rd Emergency Response Unit and U.S. advisors searched a building for a suspected AQI member who is involved in coordinating improvised-explosive device attacks.
Preliminary questioning results and evidence collected in the building led Iraqi Police to arrest four suspected criminal associates of the warranted individual.
