Shortly after the Soldiers unloaded the tents, Afghan students were right by their side rolling them out ready to assist however possible.
"This is a very hospitable country," said 2nd Lt. Joel Silver HHC, 1st BSTP Platoon leader. "We did expect a little help, but the amount we received was unbelievable.
With the help of the Afghan children, the Soldiers spent a little more than three hours putting up seven tents. As soon as they finished a tent, younger students would
"It's a good feeling when children rush into a tent that was just built by your soldiers, with smiles on their face screaming 'thank you'," Silver said.
"The school principle told me they're thankful for everything that we do, and this will be a day the children will never forget," Silver said.
The battalion is in charge of more than 24 different villages for improvement operations within the next eight months. The improvements will consist of fixing mosques, clinics and schools.
"My Soldiers love doing these kinds of missions," said Silver. "They know they're impacting the Afghan families directly, in a positive way."
The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division wants to teach the local community as much as possible to help enrich their lives.
"It's important that we work hand-in-hand with the community and teach them as much as we can, so when we leave they can continue to build upon the foundation that we worked together to start," Silver said.
