Russia's Foreign Ministry says allegations of a Russian spy ring in the United States are "groundless" and "unseemly."
A statement released by Russia's Foreign Ministry voiced regret that the arrests of 10 alleged spies in the United States came as President Barack Obama had moved to "reset" relations with Moscow.
KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan-international security force killed several insurgents, including a Haqqani network improvised explosive device cell leader, with a precision airstrike while they placed an IED in Khost province last night.
After international forces confirmed insurgent activity and no civilians were at risk, they called for the airstrike as the cell was emplacing the IED on a main route in Matun District.
The Obama administration said Monday that it considers the sinking of a South Korean warship in March, attributed to North Korea, to be a violation of the Korean War armistice and not an act of terrorism. Since the attack, there have been calls for North Korea to be returned to the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, which carries with it major sanctions.
Obama administration officials say they will closely monitor North Korean activity for signs of a return to international terrorism.
But they say they consider the sinking of the South Korean warship the Cheonon to have been a military-against-military operation and not an act of terrorism. Forty-six South Korean sailors died in the attack.

06.28.2010 MARJAH, Afghanistan – Afghan government officials, Marines identify current successes, future improvements during stability shura in Marjah
The shura kicked off with a bazaar walk through the streets of Marjah, where the Taliban was removed and local governance has been implemented throughout the past five months. Afghan residents filled the streets and interacted with the dignitaries as they walked through the area, which has seen development projects and progress made as stability is being restored to the region.
Helmand Deputy Provincial Gov. Haji Sattar spoke on behalf of the Afghan government and the governor’s office. Although largely a ceremonial visit, he endorsed the shura and encouraged further shuras as a way to reach out to the local population.

06.28.2010 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Defense Department must find $100 billion in savings over the next five years to ensure U.S. warfighters continue to have the resources they need to defend the nation now and into the future, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said here June 28.
At a briefing today, Gates introduced Ashton Carter, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, and spoke about his own commitment to the effort.
"Over the past month, I've directed the Pentagon to take a hard, unsparing look at how the department is staffed, organized and operated," Gates said. "The purpose is to significantly reduce our overhead costs in order to free up the resources needed to sustain our force structure, to modernize, and to create future combat capabilities."
President Barack Obama's defense budget requests for the next five years reflect the importance of growth for the department, the secretary said. While funding for other federal agencies is flat, the Defense Department is projected for a bit more than 1 percent real growth.
Lawyers for five Americans found guilty of terror offenses last week in Pakistan and sentenced to 10 years in prison said Monday they have appealed their clients' convictions.
The defense lawyers, who filed the appeal on Monday, have said they are prepared to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court.
Prosecutors had been asking for life in prison, and have said they will appeal for a longer sentence.

First along might be Air Force Master Sgt. Greg Ramos, who is the fitness center's superintendent. Or Air Force Staff Sgt. Gavin Ramos, Greg's younger brother, might come to help.
Either way, the Ramos brothers are fairly well known around the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing as the "Hawaiian brothers at the fitness center." They have

3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Fwd) Public Affairs Story by Gunnery Sgt. Steven Williams
06.27.2010 CAMP BASTION, Afghanistan – A CH-53E Super Stallion flew across the dawning sun here June 26 as it returned with an 18,000-pound piece of vital cargo slung beneath its belly. The sight of the aircraft against the painted morning sky was impressive on two accounts – the vision of the silhouetted helicopter floating in Afghanistan’s vibrant dawn, and the fact that the cargo toted below was a United Kingdom Mk3 Merlin (EH-101) helicopter.
The Super Stallion, deployed here with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466, was recovering the aircraft from a forward operating base after the Merlin went down in a non-hostile event. Perhaps the most impressive part of the recovery mission – HMH-466 pulled it off with less than 18 hours notice.
“In order for it to go down,” Lt. Col. Mitch Cassell, the HMH-466 Commanding Officer, explained,

The UAV also provides help to the Soldiers on the ground.
“It provides battle damage assessment, near real time video, surveillance and reconnaissance for ground units,” said Warrant Officer Michael Pantalone, the Unmanned Aerial Systems Technician. “It saves lives by going out there and providing security for missions such as cordon searches. LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (June 18, 2010)—Last week, 22 wounded warriors continued their path to recovery by working out with the New Orleans Saints live via webcam as part of the program “Rehabbing with the Troops.” Sponsored by Armed Forces Insurance(AFI, www.afi.org), the 10-week rehabilitation program was developed by Pro vs. G.I. Joe, in partnership with the United Services Organizations (USO) and Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).
“More than 37,000 troops have been wounded during combat operations overseas since 2003. Rehabbing with the Troops shines a spotlight on the challenges wounded warriors face while helping these 22 veterans tackle the serious business of recovery,” said Tom Dials (Colonel, U.S. Army, Ret.), chairman of Armed Forces Insurance. “We want to honor their sacrifice and support their recovery—this one-of-a-kind program is an ideal way to do just that.”
