News reports provided by ISAF Joint Command regarding operations conducted in the following provinces: Kandahar, Logar, Paktiya, Helmand, Faryab and Paktika.
Coalition medical personnel treated five Afghan civilians wounded by improvised explosive devices in the Maiwand District of Kandahar province yesterday.
According to the U.S. Special Forces commander working in the area, three Afghan civilians were riding a tractor when they hit a pressure-plate IED.
In a separate incident,
"The men were brought in for emergency medical treatment by ANP who reacted to the scene of both these incidents," said the USSF commander, whose team medic treated the five IED victims at a coalition forces base nearby.
"Insurgents don't even want citizens to move around in their own villages," said the USSF commander. "But thanks to the quick thinking and prompt actions of the ANP in Maiwand, the five citizens were able to reach medical care."
Logar Province
Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Taliban attack coordinator and facilitator who moved improvised explosive devices and weapons into Kabul City.
The assault force targeted a compound in Nawe Kala in Pul-e 'Alam District in pursuit of the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully, and then secured the area.
After questioning all of the residents at the scene, the security force identified and detained the facilitator along with three additional insurgents.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
Khost Province
An Afghan and coalition security force detained several insurgents in Khost province Friday while in pursuit of a Haqqani Network facilitator of improvised explosive device material and weapons used in indirect fire attacks.
The security force targeted a series of compounds north of the village of Mut Kheyl in Sabari District to search for the facilitator.
Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully and then cleared the buildings. After questioning all the residents, the security force detained eight insurgents. The security force also discovered multiple automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades.
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
Paktiya Province
UPDATE: International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Taliban commander in Paktiya province during an Afghan and coalition security force operation Wednesday.
The commander was one of several insurgents detained.
As the assault force approached the targeted compound Wednesday, three armed insurgents ran from the compound and posed an imminent threat on the assault force. The assault force engaged and killed the insurgents who were armed with AK-47s, multiple grenades, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and multiple rounds.
After the area was secure, Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully, and then secured the area. After questioning all of the residents at the scene, the security force detained the commander and two additional insurgents.
They also found an automatic weapon with rounds in the compound.
The security force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
Also.....
Afghan and coalition forces conducted operations in Paktiya province last night while in pursuit of a Taliban commander for coordinating and conducting indirect fire and direct fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
The commander, Naman, also coordinated the movement of improvised explosive devices, ammunition, supplies and fighters. He was killed in the operation, along with seven other insurgents.
As the security force approached the targeted compounds west of Kowti Sheyl in Zormat District, several armed insurgents ran from the compounds. Two of the insurgents hid in a wadi outside the compound and were engaged by coalition aircraft after they threatened the security force.
Two additional armed insurgents ran in a different direction.
As the security force attempted to interdict them, the insurgents demonstrated hostile intent and were also killed. During a follow-on inspection, the security force found automatic weapons, grenades, magazines and IED-making material with the insurgents.
In the compound, four insurgents hid inside one of the buildings and engaged the force with a machine gun as they attempted to clear the building. The security force returned fire and killed the insurgents.
Inside the building, the security force found the machine gun, multiple automatic weapons, 16 grenades, 25 magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with multiple rounds and a bayonet. They also found IED-making material including blasting caps and other components in the building.
After the fighting ceased, Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to peacefully exit the remainder of the buildings. After questioning the residents on scene, the security force detained several insurgents.
"The Taliban use callous and irresponsible tactics, which regularly puts the Afghan people in harm's way," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "Afghan and coalition forces will do everything in their power to take those responsible off the streets and establish safe living conditions for the Afghan people."
The security force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.

Helmand Province
Afghan and coalition security forces targeted a Taliban judge with influence in Nad 'Ali and Marjah Districts of Helmand province Friday.
The assault force targeted a compound in remote Marjah District in pursuit of the judge.
Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully, and then secured the area. After questioning all of the residents at the scene, the security force detained several suspected insurgents.
"The Taliban try to establish governance based on their oppressive ideology and their actions are often severe and illegal in the eyes of the legitimate and established government of Afghanistan," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "We will continue pursuing those who think they can self-appoint themselves and govern illegally through intimidation and violence."
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
Faryab Province
Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police, supported by members from the International Security Assistance Force, discovered a munitions cache in the Ghormach District of Faryab province, Thursday.
The joint operation recovered 350 82mm mortar rounds, 175 fuses and 200 shotgun shell initiation cartridges.
The cache was discovered after a source notified the ANA 3rd Kandak about the weapons. The ANA contacted the ANP for support and the joint Afghan National Security Forces conducted a search, locating the cache approximately five feet underground.
The cache was confiscated and safely transported to the 1st Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery at Forward Operating Base Ghormach.
The ANA assessed that the cache was left over from the Afghan-Soviet War.
Paktika Province
One Afghan civilian was killed and seven others were wounded when an insurgent wearing a suicide vest detonated himself in a local store in the Bermal District of Paktika province today.
The wounded Afghans were taken to a local clinic for initial treatment, and are being transferred to an International Security Assistance Force medical facility for further care.
The incident is currently under investigation.
