Farah Province
Two insurgents wearing suicide improvised explosive device vests were killed in an explosion in Farah city yesterday.
According to reports, the two insurgents attempted to scale the perimeter wall of the governor’s compound in Farah when
“Fortunately this insurgent attempt to attack a government facility ended in failure,” said U.S. Air Force Col. James Dawkins, ISAF Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. “Afghan and coalition forces will not allow the insurgents to hinder the development of governance in Afghanistan.”
Helmand Province
Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Taliban judge with influence in Nad ‘Ali and Marjah districts of Helmand province Sunday.
The assault force targeted a compound west of Lashkar Gah in Marjah district in pursuit of the judge. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully, and then secured the area.
After questioning all of the residents at the scene, the security force detained the judge. The security force also found 15 pounds of wet opium at the scene.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.

Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces uncovered and secured a large weapons cache in the Jalriz District, Maydan Wardak province today. A district sub-governor was killed and four of his bodyguards were wounded when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated outside of the governor's palace in the Jalalabad District of Nangarhar province Aug. 30.

The target of the operation, Qari Hazrat, an insurgent commander who had been conducting hit and run attack in the Sangin and Qaleh Ye Gaz areas against Afghan and coalition forces, was killed in the strike, along with three other insurgents.
Hazrat was known to be operating throughout the Upper Gereshk Valley and was in direct command of numerous other lower-level commanders, whom he ordered to conduct attacks against coalition forces.
He was also a facilitator of lethal aid, ranging from IED components to ammunition and heavy weapons. Reliable information indicated this individual had major plans to disrupt the upcoming elections.
Hazrat and his associates were targeted while they were driving down an isolated road in Helmand province.
"We will continue to target and eliminate Taliban commanders until they are all captured or killed and no one is left to fill the void," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
As the patrol arrived at the target location, they were immediately engaged by three insurgents. The Afghan and coalition forces returned fire, killing the attackers. After securing the compound, Afghan and coalition forces attempted to call out any additional insurgent and/or civilians, but were unsuccessful.
Afghan and coalition forces then forcibly entered the compound.
During the search they again came under fire by a lone insurgent, who was hiding within the building. The insurgent was killed in the ensuing fire fight.
"This operation will help to keep the pressure on the regional facilitation group taht are attempting to ramp things up before the elections," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "We will do everything in our power to make sure the Afghan elections are carried out safely without Taliban influence."
He is also responsible for coordinating improvised explosive device attacks.
Afghan and coalition forces targeted a compound outside Deh Savzi in Arghandab district to search for the facilitator. Afghan and coalition forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the areas.
The security force detained the facilitator and six associates after interviewing the residents on scene. The security force also found an IED initiator at the scene.
The security force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
The commander also coordinates the movement of supplies and fighters throughout the province.

Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area. The security force detained the suspected insurgents after interviewing the residents on scene.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
Afghan and coalition forces targeted a series of compounds in Sahebdad Ghundey in Kandahar district to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully and then secured the area.
After questioning all the residents at the scene, the security force identified and detained the facilitator.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
Paktiya Province
Acting on intelligence tips, Afghan and coalition forces targeted a compound east of Malekshir Kala in Zormat district to search for the commander. Afghan and coalition forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully and then secured the area.
After questioning all the residents at the scene, the security force detained the insurgents. The security force also found multiple automatic weapons, magazines and ammunition at the scene.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
Khost Province
Afghan and coalition forces targeted a remote series of compounds north of Ziarat-e Bad in Khost district to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully and then secured the area.
After questioning all the residents at the scene, the security force detained the insurgents.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
The commander is also involved in improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces.
Acting on intelligence tips, Afghan and coalition forces targeted a series of buildings east of Khodizali in Terayzai district to search for the commander. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then secured the area.
After questioning all the residents at the scene, the security force identified and detained the commander along with several Haqqani fighters. The security force discovered and destroyed a suicide vest and multiple grenade launchers, hand grenades, automatic weapons, magazines and ammunition.
“We are happy to report the capture of this Haqqani commander and his fighters,” said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. “They were directly involved in this week’s attacks. These fighters will be brought to justice for the attacks they’ve conducted against Afghan and coalition forces, as well as Afghan civilians.”
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
Acting on a tip from a local informant, the operation netted six 75 MM recoilless rifle rounds, eight fuses, two 60 MM mortar rounds, one 82 MM recoilless round, seven 85 MM recoilless rounds, 18 rocket-propelled grenade 9 rockets, and four RPG 7 rockets.
The cache was destroyed in place.
“We could not have done this without the help of the locals,” said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. “Without their bravery in coming forward, these weapons would be pointed towards Afghan and coalition forces, as well as potentially hurting or killing innocent Afghan people.”
Nangarhar Province
Sayeed Mohamed Paliwan, the sub-governor of La'l Por District, was killed as a result of the blast, according to official reports.
"Our thoughts and concerns are with the families of the deceased and wounded during this difficult time," said U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. David Garza, deputy chief of staff for joint operations, Headquarters ISAF Joint Command. "This killing of a government official is senseless."
Afghan National Police and International Security Assistance Force troops immediately responded to the scene.
The cause of the vehicle-borne IED explosion is unknown; however, initial reports indicate the IED was attached to the bottom of the sub-governor's vehicle.
"This is a flagrant act, particularly in the context of religion and in the context of the normal codes of conduct," said Garza. "I can assure the enemies of Afghanistan that we will pursue those responsible and we will continue to set the conditions to protect the Afghan people and provide a secure environment for sustainable GIRoA-led peace."
