08.15.2010 ORUZGAN, Afghanistan – An Afghan couple braved a difficult journey and delivered their baby by way of an emergency cesarean section at a coalition forces base in Oruzgan province Aug. 14.

An interpreter working alongside the medical staff explained that the mother went into labor about two days prior to reaching the clinic. Due to the mother’s condition, medical personnel performed a cesarean section in order to ensure a safe delivery of the baby.
The baby, born at approximately 1:45 p.m., weighed in at 7 pounds 6 ounces and measured 19 inches.
Coalition forces medical personnel said the mother and child are healthy and doing well and will remain at the military medical clinic until the mother is healthy enough to return to home.
