New York Police Probe Killing of Nicaraguan Diplomat
New York City police are investigating the death of a Nicaraguan diplomat found slain in his Bronx apartment just before he was set to attend the U.N. General Assembly.
A police spokeswoman said Friday the motive behind the killing of 34-year-old Cesear Mercado was not clear.
Investigators say Mercado had been stabbed in his abdomen and his throat had been slashed. Authorities say two knives were used in the attack. Police recovered a 30-centimeters-long steak knife beside a bathroom sink and a smaller paring knife in the sink.
Mercado served as Nicaragua’s consul in New York and had lived in the United States for eight years.
