U.S. and Iraqi forces have launched a joint raid in the former Iraqi insurgent stronghold of Fallujah, killing at least seven people.
Iraqi officials say the joint force was targeting suspected insurgents in the area when the gunbattle erupted. They say at least four others were wounded in the fighting.
U.S. officials have confirmed the raid, but did not provide further details.
U.S. forces formally ended combat operations in Iraq, but nearly 50,000 soldiers remain in the country to train Iraqi soldiers and police, and conduct joint counter-terror operations.
Also Wednesday, Iraqi police say a roadside bomb explosion killed nine Iraqi soldiers in the northern city of Mosul.
Officials say the off-duty soldiers were traveling in a minibus at the time of the attack. The blast wounded six other soldiers.
