News reports provided by ISAF Joint Command regarding operations conducted in the following provinces: Kandahar, Kunduz, Badghis, Paktika and Oruzgan.
Two Afghan males were treated, Oct. 6, after approaching a Bagram Air Field gate with injuries sustained from a detonated landmine.
The wounded teenagers were visiting Jan Qadam village, which borders Bagram’s west side, to attend a wedding. After the wedding, one of the individuals climbed a tree to pick fruit, while the other watched from the ground. When the young man jumped down from the tree, a landmine detonated, injuring both individuals.
Family members brought the wounded to Camp Montrond’s back gate where medics treated them at the scene. One of the wounded sustained a partial foot amputation and the other sustained minor blast injuries to the left side. Both were then transported to Bagram’s Craig Joint Theater Hospital for follow-on treatment.
“We are very glad that the U.S. Soldiers helped them,” said family members through an interpreter.
Minefields remain scattered around Bagram, cordoned off by barbed wire and signs. It is suspected that thousands of mines remain from the Soviet occupation.

Kandahar Province
An Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force patrol killed three suspected insurgents and detained several more in southern Afghanistan Wednesday.
The force was conducting a route-clearing operation in Kandahar province when they spotted a group of military-aged males carrying weapons. A team was sent to the area to investigate the activity.
As the combined patrol entered the target area, they attempted to detain two armed insurgents. The insurgents attempted to engage the troops and were killed by the force.
The patrol then moved to clear a number of tents in the area and detained one suspected insurgent who was found hiding. As they continued past the tent area, the patrol was engaged with small-arms fire by another suspected insurgent. They returned fire, killing the man.
While continuing their patrol, a suspected insurgent was spotted attempting to hide on a hill. As the force attempted to question the man, he ran away. The force gave chase and as they approached him, he threatened the force by pulling a pistol from his shirt. The security force engaged the man, killing him.
As they continued to clear the area, another armed suspected insurgent was found hiding. The man attempted to engage the patrol and was killed.
Throughout the course of the operation, several women and children were protected by the security force. In subsequent questioning, one woman indicated that the suspected insurgents had demanded food and drink and threatened her family.
A total of three men were detained for further questioning during the operation.

Coalition forces conducted precision strikes on known homemade explosives factories and followed with a joint-force deliberate clearing operation aimed at disrupting the Taliban's freedom of movement in Kandahar province Wednesday.
The joint security force targeted several compounds in and around the village of Khusrawe Ulya in Arghandab District. The security force conducted several precision strikes on known enemy HME factories before the ground force entered the targeted area.
At a series of compounds, Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the combined force cleared and secured the compounds. The security force detained two suspected insurgents throughout the operation.
During the clearance, the security force discovered one of the target compounds was rigged as a large house-borne improvised explosive device. After the ground force departed, coalition forces conducted a precision airstrike, destroying the compound and explosives, ensuring it could not harm any civilians.
The security force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.

Kunduz Province
Coalition forces conducted a precision airstrike and follow-on operation in Takhar Wednesday, killing Maulawi Jawadullah, the Taliban district leader for Yangi Qalah of Takhar, along with seven of his associates.
Maulawi Jawadullah was directly responsible for organizing and holding kidnapped Afghan National Police and Security Force members, while also endangering the Afghan people by conducting improvised explosive device and ambush operations in the northern part of the province. He is also linked to the recent deaths of at least 10 ANP during an attack on a police station in Kunduz.
The security force tracked the targeted individual among a group of insurgents to a remote area of neighboring Darquad district. After verifying insurgent activity and ensuring no civilians were present, coalition forces conducted a precision air strike on the group.
A follow-on Afghan and coalition ground force dispatched to the strike area to assess the results. Three insurgents hiding in a nearby wood line were killed after they threatened the security force.
The security force also confirmed five insurgents killed in the strike and found multiple automatic weapons and grenades at the scene.
Initial reporting indicates no civilians were killed during the operation.
Badghis Province
Afghan and coalition forces killed Mullah Ismail, the Taliban shadow governor of Badghis province, and Abdul Hakim, a Taliban senior leader in Badghis, during an operation in the province Wednesday.
The Afghan and coalition force's deliberate campaign to disrupt Taliban operations in Badghis and neighboring Faryab provinces has resulted in five Taliban senior leaders killed, including the shadow governors for Badghis and Faryab provinces, and one captured, during several operations over the last 10 days.
"This was a huge blow to the Taliban operating in northwest Afghanistan," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "These were two of the few remaining shadow governors not hiding in Pakistan and their removal will significantly reduce Taliban influence throughout the region."
Mullah Ismail had operational control over Taliban fighters, suicide bombers, directed improvised explosive device strikes, indirect fire and complex ambush attacks on coalition forces.
The security force tracked three insurgents armed with AK-47s travelling through a remote area in Murghab district. As the security force approached, the insurgents threatened them and the assault force shot and killed them. The third insurgent was detained unharmed.
The security force continued clearing in the area, when three additional insurgents threatened the security force. The assault force fired, killing all three insurgents, including Mullah Ismail and Abdul Hakim. All the insurgents were armed with various types of weapons.
Paktika Province
An unmanned aerial vehicle crashed in Paktika province Thursday.
The vehicle is a lightweight, medium-range reconnaissance and surveillance UAV system and contains no weapons or intelligence that could be exploited by enemy forces.
Initial reports indicate that the UAV crashed due to mechanical failure.
Oruzgan Province
The 8th Commando Kandak partnered with coalition forces recovered a large weapons cache Oct. 3 in Oruzgan province.
The combined force was conducting a security patrol when it recovered the weapons cache. As part of the patrol the Afghan-led force had also scheduled to meet with local Afghan leaders to discuss possible infrastructure development projects in the local area.
The cache consisted of two rocket propelled grenades, six improvised explosive devices, three containers of five-gallon jugs of homemade explosive with detonators inserted, one radio controlled IED, 100 rounds of DSHKA, 100 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, and one tactical vest, one half-liter water bottle of homemade explosive encased with wood and springs to create shrapnel when detonated, and one bag of pomegranate HMEs.
The recovery of the weapons cache will significantly degrade insurgent’s ability to cause harm to Afghan and coalition forces as well as civilians in the area.
