Operations in Khandahar, Paktika, Paktia netted Taliban leaders and life partners, as well as minions of murder, while an air strike in Zabul prevented relapse of either terrorist returning to a life of destruction.

Afghan commandos from 3rd Commando Kandak, along with soldiers from Special Operations Task Force–South, found nine improvised explosive devices during the operation and were involved in two separate firefights with insurgent elements.
“The amount of IEDs found and detonated was a direct reflection of the veracity with which the Taliban will fight in order to keep their safe haven,” said the U.S. Special Forces team leader in charge of the operation. “The operation led to the insurgency being disrupted and denied them freedom of movement and safe haven.”
Three men with ties to the insurgency surrendered to Coalition forces during the operation whereupon they were immediately detained.
No civilians were injured or property damage occurred during the operation.
An Afghan-led operation in the Arghistan District of Kandahar province, Oct. 28, was able to disrupt an insurgent network known to facilitate attacks on Afghan and coalition forces in the province.
The operation resulted in 24 enemy killed-in-action and was led by Col. Abdul Raziq, commander of the Afghan Border Police. The ABP was partnered with a force of soldiers from Special Operations Task Force – South.
Found during the operation were 20 pressure-plate improvised explosive devices, five jugs of homemade explosive, two anti-tank mines, four assault rifles and IED making material (fuses, wire, pressure plates).
No civilians were injured and no property damage was reported during the operation.
KABUL, Afghanistan – A senior Taliban leader surrendered to a combined force of Afghan National Army special forces and Afghan Border Police during operations in Dand Patan District, Paktiya province, Thursday.
The ANA special forces team, assisted by U.S. Special Forces, received information about a known improvised explosive device facilitator and Taliban senior leader who was located in a store.
ANA special forces coordinated with the local Afghan Border Police chief who sent an officer to the store to confirm the leader’s presence.
The combined force of ANASF and ABP personnel secured the perimeter of the store, allowing the senior Taliban leader to peacefully surrender.
No civilians were harmed during the operation.
KABUL, Afghanistan – A coalition air weapons team killed more than 20 insurgents in the Spin Boldak District of Kandahar province Thursday after coming under fire from the insurgents.
When the air weapons team received small-arms and machine gun fire from a large group of insurgents, it returned fire with rockets and the aircraft’s 30 mm cannon.
Following the engagement, Afghan and coalition forces on the ground discovered a cache of 20 improvised explosive devices and four machine guns and captured a vehicle and 17 motorcycles.
Initial operational reporting states there were no civilian casualties.
In a separate operation Thursday in the Zharay District of Kandahar, Afghan and coalition forces discovered a large stockpile of anti-aircraft rounds while conducting a dismounted patrol.
The cache included 50 cases of DShK rounds, with each case containing 200 rounds. The patrol also found six mortar rounds.
Coalition forces transported the cache to a forward operating base.
KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader who commands a group of fighters involved in improvised explosive device attacks, conducting ambushes and the facilitation of weapons and ammunition, during an overnight operation in Paktika province.
He is the seventh insurgent leader captured or killed in Paktika province this month.
Intelligence reports led the security force to a compound near Ghaybikheyl in Yahya Khel district to search for the targeted individual. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully, and then the security force cleared and secured the area.
After initial questioning at the scene, the security force identified and detained the targeted individual and one of his associates.
Additionally, the assault force observed several armed insurgents moving toward their position. The security force shot and killed several insurgents armed with machine guns and automatic weapons. Additionally, the security force discovered and destroyed multiple automatic weapons, grenades, anti-personnel mines, pressure-plate IEDs, detonation wire and rocket-propelled grenades with launchers.
The assault force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
KABUL, Afghanistan - Coalition forces conducted a precision air strike in Zabul province Thursday targeting a senior Taliban leader who plans attacks against Afghan and coalition forces and facilitates the movement of foreign fighters, killing two insurgents.
He is also known to harbor high-level Taliban leaders passing through his area.
Based on intelligence sources, coalition forces tracked the senior leader traveling in a vehicle equipped with a heavy anti-aircraft gun to a remote area in Shah Joy district. After verifying insurgent activity and ensuring no civilians were present, coalition forces conducted the precision air strike on the vehicle, destroying it and killing two occupants.
The International Security Assistance Force is still gathering information to assess the results of the strike.
