The child was brought to a Coalition force’s clinic by the father for immediate medical care.
After being treated by coalition medical personnel on site, the boy was medically evacuated by a coalition forces helicopter to a facility that could provide the proper medical treatment for his injuries.
According to the father, he heard a loud explosion and quickly started looking for his child, who was walking alone in the local town. The loud explosion the father heard was a pressure plate IED that was detonated when the child stepped on it.
KABUL, Afghanistan – Policemen with the 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Afghan National Civil Order Police Brigade found an explosives cache in an abandoned compound while on patrol in the Zharay District of Kandahar province Tuesday.
During a morning security patrol, ANCOP discovered multiple rocket-propelled grenade casings outside the compound. Upon further investigation, they discovered a cache of improvised explosive device materials including: one anti-personnel mine, one block of TNT explosive, one pressure plate IED, a metal chest rigged to detonate and two jugs of homemade explosives.
The ANCOP, partnered with U.S. special forces from Special Operations Task Force – South, secured the area and destroyed the explosives.
“Our partnership with special forces is something we are proud of,” said Lt. Col. Muhammad Agha, commander, 2nd Battalion, 3rd ANCOP Brigade. “Because we found these explosives and no one got hurt, that shows the special forces training is working, and that ANCOP is a worthy partner in Zharay.”
KABUL, Afghanistan – Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces to the location of a Taliban leader located in an insurgent safe house in Maidan Shahr District, Wardak province, Friday.
The targeted compound is known to be associated with a Taliban leader and facilitator who directs the planning and execution of improvised explosive devices and direct attacks against ANSF and ISAF in and around Nerkh District.
Upon surrounding the targeted compound, Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call-out all occupants to allow them to exit peacefully. The joint security forces then secured and searched the premises. A total of 15 women and six men were protected throughout the operation.
After initial questioning by Afghan forces, the joint security force detained the Taliban leader and one associate.

KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces defeated an insurgent attack while building a security checkpoint in Kapisa province, Friday.
The joint security force was attacked by numerous insurgents from several positions, with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades, as they were building the checkpoint with local officials in Tagab District. The joint security force engaged the insurgents in a fire fight lasting several hours.
During the fire fight, an air weapons team supported the security force with aerial suppression of the insurgent firing positions.
Several insurgents were killed and many more wounded from the ground and air. After taking numerous casualties, the insurgents withdrew taking the dead and wounded with them.
The joint security force then met with local leaders and initial reporting indicates there were no civilian casualties.
KABUL, Afghanistan – A coalition force conducting a mounted patrol in Helmand province killed more than 10 insurgents and discovered improvised explosive device materials during combat operations early Saturday.
While conducting the patrol in Reg-e Khan Neshin District, the coalition force came under small-arms fire and after positively identifying several groups of armed insurgents, returned fire with small arms, 25mm rounds and anti-tank missiles.
The patrol also discovered and destroyed a large IED component and drug cache consisting of 2.5 tons of ammonium nitrate, 2 tons of precursor chemicals, six cell phones, two pressure cookers, 18 pressure plates, various weapons and 10kg of opium.
The weapons and drugs were safely destroyed at the site.
KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghanistan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces, commenced a clearing operation in the southern Helmand province town of Bahram Chah Saturday.
The area is a Taliban command and control area that consists of narcotics trafficking, weapons and ammunition storage, improvised explosive device factories, and foreign fighter training areas, according to Regional Command Southwest officials.
Afghan and coalition forces are working together to remove the enemies’ transhipment center for fighters, weapons, and IED-making material.
The operation will strengthen the counter-insurgency efforts throughout Helmand province, according to RC-Southwest officials.
KABUL, Afghanistan - Coalition forces repelled an insurgent attack on a combat outpost in the Bermal district of Paktika province Saturday, killing more than 30 insurgents.
Insurgents attacked from all directions with rocket-propelled grenades, small arms and mortar fire at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
The coalition forces called for air weapons team and close-air support during the engagement.
A coalition aircraft engaged an insurgent firing position with three precision-guided munitions. The air weapons team also engaged a large number of insurgents near the outpost.
Initial operational reporting indicates more than 30 insurgents were killed in the failed attack on the outpost.
Five coalition service members were wounded during the fire-fight, however all continued fighting and no coalition service members were killed.
KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition patrol discovered a large amount of improvised explosive device making material during an operation in the Sangin district of Helmand province Friday.
The cache consisted of: nine rocket-propelled grenades, three 82mm mortar rounds, two grenades, one 155mm shell, one 105mm shell packed with explosives, 17 pressure plates for triggering IEDs, two pressure cookers used to make IEDs, three containers of homemade explosives and 10 bags of heroin and opium.
An explosive ordnance disposal team destroyed the cache in place.
KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan commandos and U.S. special operations soldiers disrupted a known insurgent safe-haven and staging area for attacks against coalition forces during a clearing operation in the Panjwa’i District of Kandahar province Monday and Tuesday.
Afghan commandos from 3rd Commando Kandak, along with soldiers from Special Operations Task Force–South, found nine improvised explosive devices during the operation and engaged in two fire fights with insurgents.
“The amount of IEDs found and detonated was a direct reflection of the ferocity with which the Taliban will fight in order to keep their safe haven,” said the U.S. special forces team leader in charge of the operation. “The operation led to the insurgency being disrupted and denied them freedom of movement and safe haven.”
Three men with ties to the insurgency surrendered to coalition forces during the operation. The men were immediately detained.
No civilians were injured and no property damage occurred during the operation.
