VOA News Sunday, October 10th, 2010 A Baghdad court has acquitted two Iraqi men on charges of being a part of a mob that killed six British soldiers in 2003.
Hamza Hateer and Mussa Ismael al-Fartusi were cleared Sunday due to a lack of evidence.
Judges heard testimony from several witnesses, mostly Iraqi police, but none was able to identify the defendants.
One of the defendants still faces charges of stealing a British soldier’s gun.
The six British soldiers were shot and killed after being chased by a mob into a police station in the southern Iraqi town of Majar al-Kabir, north of Basra, in June 2003. They were assigned to the area to train local police officers.
A British investigation found that the soldiers were given substandard equipment, including old radios, and inadequate ammunition.
