Al Jazeera Slams Morocco’s Suspension of its Operations
A report on Al Jazeera’s website Saturday cited a network statement saying the closure of its bureau in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, will not change the channel’s editorial guidelines.
Morocco’s government suspended Al Jazeera on Friday and withdrew accreditation for its staff, citing “numerous failures” that it said went against the rules of “serious and responsible journalism.”
Moroccan officials said Al Jazeera’s reporting had distorted Morocco’s image. One official said authorities disagree with the way the network handles issues of Islamists and the Western Sahara.
