ANA Soldiers begin computer network training courses by Sgt. Jason Boyd 46th MP Command
PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army soldiers began training in computer networking courses at the Detention Facility in Parwan, Nov. 22, to increase their computer expertise.
The training, taught by members of the 46th Military Police Command, and 193rd Military Police Battalion, teaches ANA soldiers basic computer functions and how to use them to communicate with other facilities around the country.
The curriculum covers types of cables needed to establish a network, computer disassembly and computer function. It also covers how to set up a network allowing for Internet communication between Parwan, Kabul, the United States and around the world.
Other members of the ANA from different locations are also able to participate in the computer network training.
“Some of our other officers and non-commissioned officers are being brought from Pol-e-Charki to take these courses,” said Capt. Ghulam Mostaqin, ANA deputy information technology officer. “I will attend as many classes as I can, this way I will be able to gain as much knowledge as possible.”
This training will allow the ANA to instruct their own soldiers in Information Technology and Networking.
“Being able to teach our people how to troubleshoot problems will cut costs and increase production,” said Mostaqin.
Additionally, the ANA will be capable of sustaining its own Information Technology program once the conditions-based transition of the DFIP occurs.
CJIATF-435, in partnership with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and U.S. interagency and international partners, conducts operations in detention, corrections, the judicial sector and biometrics. Ultimately, conditions permitting, CJIATF-435 will transition detention operations to Afghan control while promoting Rule of Law practices.
The 46th Military Police Command, Task Force Peacekeeper, a subordinate CJIATF-435 command, oversees all detention operations at the DFIP. The task force ensures the safe and humane custody, control and care of detained persons in the Detention Facility in Parwan. Their efforts will enable Afghan National Army Soldiers to assume responsibility from their American counterparts and run the detention facility.
The DFIP, a state-of-the-art theater internment facility, located several kilometers from Bagram Airfield, was completed in September 2009 and occupied by detainees in late December 2009. The DFIP is equipped with a medical facility, on-site family visitation center, vocational facilities and educational classrooms. The design of the DFIP accommodates detainee reintegration efforts and enables CJIATF-435 to better align detainee operations with the overall strategy to defeat the extremist insurgency in Afghanistan.
