Gunmen in Yemen Kidnap Saudi Doctor
Officials said Monday the Saudi doctor’s abductors have demanded the release of militants in Saudi Arabia. The doctor runs Al-Salam Hospital in Yemen’s northern province of Saada.
A Yemeni news organization (News Yemen) says local officials believe the kidnappers are affiliated with al-Qaida militants.
Earlier this month, the United Nations refugee agency said tensions near Yemen’s northern border with Saudi Arabia are at their highest since Houthi rebels and government forces brokered their truce in February.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been fighting the government since 2004, while al-Qaida’s Yemeni branch has waged a separate battle against the state, mainly in the south.
