NYT: Leaked Cables Detail Chinese Government Involvement in Google Attacks
The New York Times reports that one cable says a Chinese source told the American Embassy about the government’s involvement in January. The report quotes cables that say the Google attack was part of a coordinated campaign of computer sabotage that was carried out by government operatives, private security experts and Internet outlaws recruited by the Chinese government.
The cables say that since 2002, the coordinated government-led campaign has broken into American government computers and those of Western allies, the Dalai Lama and American businesses.
China has denied any involvement in the Google attack. At the time, Google did not specifically name the Chinese government, but said the attack originated in China and was highly sophisticated
