5 Killed in Attacks on Mexico Police
VoA News: Authorities in Mexico say four police officers and a doctor have been killed around the northern city of Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo Leon state.
Investigators say assailants threw a grenade and fired on a police station, killing a doctor and two officers inside the facility.
Elsewhere, authorities say a woman police officer was gunned down during an attack on her patrol car in the nearby town of Guadalupe. In a third incident, a policeman was shot and killed elsewhere in the town. The attacks are under investigation.
Guadalupe is also in Nuevo Leon, which has seen violence as rival drug cartels fight over lucrative smuggling routes.
About 30,000 people have been killed in Mexico's drug war since President Felipe Calderon took office in late 2006 and began cracking down on the cartels.
