Tuesday, December 28th, 2010 VOA News Iraqi authorities say a double suicide bombing near a provincial government compound in the western city of Ramadi has killed at least 17 people and wounded about 45 others.
Officials say a suicide bomber detonated a minibus packed with explosives at an intersection near the offices of the Anbar provincial administration.
They say a second bomber disguised as a policeman blew himself up minutes later in a crowd of people trying to help the victims of the first blast.
Authorities say the casualties included policemen, women, children and family members of victims of a deadly suicide December 12 attack at the same location. The family members were at the site to receive compensation for their losses.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Monday's blasts, but the use of secondary bombings to catch bystanders and rescue personnel is a hallmark of al-Qaida in Iraq.
Monday's attack was the fourth to be carried out near the Ramadi compound housing Anbar's provincial government since December 2009.
