12.28.2010 By Artur Weber TF White Eagle PAO GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Soldiers from Task Force White Eagle and U.S. Army Company A (Sappers) 86th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, conducted a joint operation in a small village near Ghazni City Dec. 27, which resulted in the discovery of an illegal weapons cache.
The joint forces were transported by Mi-17 helicopters to gain the element of surprise and to prevent insurgents from destroying or moving munitions stored in the village.
During the operation, soldiers discovered more than 20 mortar rounds and many more artillery rounds of different types and calibers. The cache was later destroyed by coalition forces.
The operation was successful in weakening insurgent activity in Ghazni province. Since the current rotation of Polish task forces arrived in October, TF White Eagle has seized more than 12 tons of explosive material and more than 175 kilograms of illegal drugs in the province.
