Thousands Protest Against Corruption in India
About 5,000 gathered Sunday in central New Delhi to show their anger at a series of high-profile scandals that have hit the administration of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Some protesters carried placards and shouted slogans.
One of the most prominent cases to impact the central government is a telecommunications scandal that may have cost the government as much as $40 billion, forced Telecommunications Minister Andimuthu Raja to resign, and paralyzed parliament's December session.
India's image also was damaged by allegations of widespread corruption related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in October, while leaders of Mr. Singh's ruling Congress party also have been accused of taking prime property in India's financial capital, Mumbai.
