Is it too much to ask that the person singing our National Anthem in front of a crowd of thousands at an event being viewed around the world at least get the words right?

Call me old fashioned, but that was pure torture listening to Christina butcher our National Anthem.
I much prefer this version, where not only are the words correct, but the song is performed much closer to the way it was originally written, not some new improved version!!
I made myself sit and listen out of respect, but it was painful. I really wish people would just sing the song the way it was written! I know it is a very difficult song to sing. This isn't a tryout for American Idol where improv wins you points!
