Afghan and coalition forces detained a Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin, or HIG facilitator. Recent reporting indicated the HIG facilitator made arrangements to record a video of HIG insurgents preparing for upcoming attacks.
A wide variety of items were recovered during operations today: 5 radio antennas, 4 RPG fuel cells and 15 mortar fins. 4,200 pounds (1909 kilograms) of ammonium nitrate and 1,540 pounds, (700 kilograms) of dry opium, 500 pounds (226 kilograms) and 100 pounds (45 kilograms) of poppy seeds.

Kandahar Province
A combined patrol in Zharay district recovered 500 pounds (226 kilograms) of hashish and 100 pounds (45 kilograms) of poppy seeds today. One person was detained for questioning regarding the find.

Today, an Afghan and ISAF patrol found a weapons cache in Panjwa’i district. Included in the find were 10 blocks of TNT, six anti-tank mines, five sticks of explosives, 30 AK-47 rounds, detonation cord and other assorted weapons.
Nimroz Province
While conducting a vehicle interdiction operation in Nimroz province yesterday, a joint security force located 1,540 pounds, (700 kilograms) of dry opium partially buried in an area where the force was looking for a vehicle.
Zabul Province
In Qalat district, Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban facilitator during a security operation yesterday. The facilitator operated in Qalat and Shah Joy districts where he was responsible for moving improvised explosive device materials. He was involved in IED attacks for the purpose of protecting facilitation routes along Highway 1 as well as providing safe haven to Taliban in the area.
The facilitator was detained after initial questioning at the scene.

Several insurgent leaders in Qalat district have turned themselves in to Afghan and coalition forces after being constantly targeted for their insurgent activities within the area.
Helmand Province
Afghan and coalition forces operating in Kajaki district, Helmand province detained several insurgents and found explosives and weapons during a clearing operation yesterday. Approximately 4,200 pounds (1,900 kilograms) of ammonium nitrate and five AK-47s were found, along with miscellaneous Taliban propaganda.

While conducting a patrol in Garm Ser district today, an ISAF unit found several unexploded ordnance rounds. Included among the unexploded rounds were an 811 mortar, 155 mm illumination round, 105 mm high-explosive round, grenade, 30 mm projectile and 15 mortar fins.
All weapons and drugs have been or will be destroyed by security forces.

Several insurgents were detained during clearing operations by Afghan National Army and ISAF in Kajaki district, Helmand province yesterday. Coalition forces also discovered 4,200 pounds (1909 kilograms) of ammonium nitrate, five AK-47s and one rifle.

In the Sangin district, an Afghan National Police and ISAF patrol found one rifle, three grenades, five radio antennas, one AK-47 and 20 loose rounds.

Uruzgan Province
In Chorah district, an Afghan security forces and ISAF patrol found three rocket propelled grenades, five 82 mm mortars, four RPG fuel cells and one AK-47 buttstock.
Khost Province
Afghan and coalition forces detained a Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin, or HIG facilitator along with several suspected insurgents during a security operation in Sabari district, Khost province yesterday.
The facilitator was responsible for supplying IEDs to HIG leaders and fighters for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. Recent reporting indicates the HIG facilitator made arrangements to record a video of HIG insurgents preparing for upcoming attacks.
Security forces followed leads to a targeted compound where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The HIG facilitator and several suspected insurgents were detained based on initial questioning at the scene.

Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces detained a Haqqani network leader along with one suspected insurgent during an operation in Khost district yesterday.
The detained leader was responsible for coordinating attacks on Afghan and coalition forces and transported weapons throughout the province.
Intelligence reports led the security force to the targeted compound in the district, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. The Haqqani Network leader was detained after his brother identified him as the targeted insurgent. An additional suspected insurgent was detained based on initial questioning at the scene. Three AK-47s, a pistol, multiple chest racks and ammunition were recovered by the security force.

Logar Province
Combined forces targeted a Taliban leader operating in Muhammad Aghah district, detaining one suspected insurgent during a security operation yesterday.
The leader is responsible for and associated with IED attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Zarghun Shahr village.
Security forces followed leads to a targeted location in the district, where Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully before conducting a search. One suspected insurgent was detained based on initial questioning at the scene.
Nangarhar Province
ISAF has confirmed a Taliban facilitator was detained during an Afghan and coalition operation in Nangarhar province, Feb. 20.
The facilitator was associated with Taliban insurgents who carry out attacks in Kabul City against residents within the area along with Afghan and coalition forces. He was responsible for moving IEDs and supplies into Kabul from Pakistan for attacks against Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan officials, and Afghan and coalition forces.
All recovered weapons have been or will be destroyed by security forces.
