US Believes Missing Ex-FBI Agent Alive in Iran
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday the new information suggests Robert Levinson, a former employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is being held somewhere in southwest Asia.
In the past, Iranian officials have denied knowledge of Levinson's whereabouts, but they also have offered their help in the investigation.
Levinson, who had retired from the FBI and was a private investigator, was on a business trip in 2007 to Kish Island. His family has said he was investigating cigarette smuggling there.
The U.S. does not have diplomatic relations with Iran. U.S. interests there are represented by the Swiss embassy in Tehran.
