VOA News 29 March 2011 Police in northeastern Afghanistan say Taliban insurgents have captured a remote district near the Pakistan border.
Nuristan province police chief Shamsul Rahman said about 300 insurgents overran Waygal district early Tuesday. He said police in the area retreated, and there were no casualties.
Taliban Spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said 12 policemen were captured along with arms and ammunition.

In other violence, NATO says an insurgent attack killed a coalition soldier in the country's east. No further details were released.
Also, new data shows that Britain's defense ministry paid out $2.1 million last year in compensation to hundreds of Afghan civilian for deaths, injuries and property damage.
TheGuardian newspaper Tuesday published the figures, which show that Britain paid out amounts ranging from $875 for the death of a girl who died in a fire started by a rocket to nearly $8000 for civilians killed in a missile strike.
