Paktika Province
The International Security Assistance Force joins President Karzai in condemning the horrific murder of as many as twenty Afghan civilians and the wounding of more than 50 in a suicide bombing attack in Paktika province yesterday.
Reports indicate a group of three suicide bombers used a truck loaded with explosives to target Afghan civilians who were being housed in a madrassa.
“The loss of innocent civilian life in this hateful, un-Islamic insurgent attack is heart-wrenching. The deliberate murder of Afghan civilians and the targeting of a traditional Afghan religious school are reprehensible actions,” said Rear Admiral Vic Beck, ISAF Director of Public Affairs. “This criminal behavior by insurgents again shows how little they care for the Afghan people and traditions, and their desire for a better life.”
“ISAF, working with the Afghan government, will continue to pursue justice for those responsible,” said Admiral Beck. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, and the families of those who have lost loved ones.”
Helmand Province
In Reg-e Khan Neshin district, Helmand province, an ISAF patrol found a narcotics and chemicals cache consisting of 5,000-6,000 pounds (2,300-2,700 kilograms) of resin glands of cannabis, or keef, 55 pounds (25 kilograms) of black-brick substance, 99 pounds (45 kilograms) of hashish, 55 pounds (25 kilograms) of heroin, 50 pounds (23 kilograms) of marijuana.

In Helmand province, coalition forces observed several insurgents emplacing an improvised explosive device in Sangin district. After gaining positive identification, coalition forces engaged the enemy position, killing the insurgents.

In the same province, an ISAF patrol spotted one insurgent displaying hostile acts against coalition forces in Sangin district. After establishing positive identification, coalition forces engaged the enemy position with small-arms fire, killing the insurgent.

Kapisa Province
In Nejrab district, Kapisa province, an ISAF patrol discovered a weapons cache consisting of six 82 mm mortar rounds, four detonators, three rocket-propelled grenade warheads and five fuses.
Logar Province
A joint Afghan and coalition force captured a Taliban improvised explosive device facilitator and detained several suspected Taliban insurgents in Pul-e Alam district, Logar province, yesterday.
The Taliban facilitator was responsible for the acquisition, construction and dissemination of IEDs and has been involved in numerous attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition security forces.
The security force targeted a compound in Pul-E Alam district based on multiple intelligence tips. After questioning residents, the security force identified and detained the IED facilitator. They also detained several suspected Taliban insurgents for further questioning. An AK-47, chest rack and IED ignition device were also found on the premises and later destroyed by the security force.
The security force ensured the safety of ten women and twenty-four children throughout the operation.

Kandahar Province
In Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, during a combined clearing operation, an Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF patrol found a large narcotics cache consisting of 1,322 pounds (600 kilograms) of hashish.

In Kandahar district, Kandahar province, during a separate clearing operation, a combined patrol discovered a weapons cache consisting of two AK-47s, 560 7.62 mm rounds and two full AK-47 magazines.

An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban cell leader operating in Kandahar City, Kandahar province, yesterday. The cell leader was involved in the coordination and execution of attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces.
The security force was led to a compound in the district based on multiple sources and tips from local citizens. The force isolated the compound before calling for all occupants to exit peacefully. After questioning the residents of the compound, the security force identified and detained the cell leader. Another Taliban insurgent was also identified and detained. There were no shots fired and no civilians were harmed during the operation.

Nangarhar Province
Afghan and coalition forces detained two suspected insurgents while searching for a Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan facilitator in Jalalabad district, Nangarhar province, yesterday. The insurgent, linked to Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan leaders in Pakistan, enables militants and suicide bombers from Pakistan to conduct operations targeting innocent Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition security forces in the Kunar and Nangarhar provinces.
Security forces followed leads to a targeted compound in Jalalabad City, where they called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully. After ensuring the safety of two children, the security force detained two suspected insurgents for further questioning. No damage was caused to the compound and no civilians were harmed during the operation.
Kabul Province
In Sarubi district, Kabul province, coalition forces discovered a weapons cache consisting of 20 82 mm rounds and four rocket-propelled grenades, yesterday.
Laghman Province
During a security operation, coalition security forces discovered a weapons cache in Mehtar Lam district, Laghman province, today. The cache consisted of 15 75 mm recoilless rifle rounds, two RPGs, one 82 mm mortar round, two fuses and one 100 mm rocket.
