12 April 2011 VOA News Iraqi security officials say a series of bombings across the country killed at least five people on Tuesday.
Authorities say a bomb attached to a car in Fallujah has killed a police lieutenant and injured at least one other person. The city is located about 50 kilometers west of Baghdad.
Security officials say a similar bomb attached to a vehicle exploded in southern Baghdad, killing a civilian.
Earlier Tuesday, police said bombs planted at the home of a former Sons of Iraq militiaman exploded, killing one person and wounding several others.
Minutes later, a roadside bomb went off as an Iraqi army patrol headed to the house west of Baghdad. At least two soldiers were killed and two others wounded.
The Sons of Iraq are part of the Awakening Councils, an umbrella organization mostly consisting of Sunni fighters who fought against al-Qaida in Iraq during the height of the war.
The blasts have taken place a day after a series of bombings across the country killed at least 13 people. The most deadly incident took place in Diyala province, where seven family members were killed when bombs exploded on their property.
