Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev is recovering from spinal surgery at a Munich, Germany hospital.
The Gorbachev Foundation said Thursday that Mr. Gorbachev will be discharged in a few days, following surgery several days ago.
Mr. Gorbachev's doctor says the two hour surgery was a success and that he is getting better.
The former Soviet leader turned 80 last month, and he celebrated with a glitzy charity bash in London.
Some participants paid up to $160 to attend the gala, which set out to raise millions for cancer charities, including the Raisa Foundation, named in tribute to Mr. Gorbachev's late wife.
