War in Afghanistan News reports provided by ISAF Joint Command. Operations are reported in the following provinces: Sar-e Pul, Uruzgan, Kabul, Kandahar, Baghlan, Helmand, Laghman and Ghazni.
Air weapons teams were highly successful in Paktika and Sar-e Pul provinces today, sending some insurgents running while many others were killed. Weapons and communication gear were also recovered.
RPG's and chest racks seemed to be the most popular items found in multiple weapons caches throughout various provinces.

Paktika Province
International Security Assistance Force killed several insurgents in Yahya Khel district, in Paktika province, today.
An ISAF combat outpost declared an imminent threat on numerous armed insurgents in Yahya Khel district. Coalition forces engaged insurgents and called for air support. After gaining positive identification, the air weapons team engaged the enemy position, killing several insurgents and forcing the others to flee.
Following the attack, a coalition forces quick response team recovered three AK-47 assault rifles, one PKM machine gun, one rocket propelled grenade, one 9 mm pistol, three tactical chest racks with grenades, two motorcycles, tactical communications equipment and one video camera.
Sar-e Pul Province
In Sar-e Pul province, an ISAF patrol observed armed insurgents in Sayad district, today. Coalition forces engaged insurgents and called for air support. After establishing positive identification, the air weapons team engaged the enemy position, killing one insurgent and forcing the others to flee.

Uruzgan Province
Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF discovered several weapons caches, in Deh Rawud, Arghandab and Marjah districts, today. The caches consisted of 500 7.62 mm rounds, four rocket-propelled grenade rounds, 14 82 mm mortar rounds, two 107 mm rockets, two chest racks, eight mortar fuses, 12 homemade detonators and several improvised explosive device-making components.
Kabul Province
Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF discovered a weapons cache in Paghman district, Kabul province, yesterday. The cache consisted of 22 RPG rounds, 10 recoilless rifle rounds and loose ammunition.
The weapons were confiscated and have been or will be destroyed by the security forces.

Kandahar Province
Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF discovered several weapons caches, in Deh Rawud, Arghandab and Marjah districts, today. The caches consisted of 500 7.62 mm rounds, four rocket-propelled grenade rounds, 14 82 mm mortar rounds, two 107 mm rockets, two chest racks, eight mortar fuses, 12 homemade detonators and several improvised explosive device-making components.

A combined Afghan and coalition force captured a Taliban facilitator during a security operation in Zharay district, Kandahar province, yesterday.
The facilitator was a Taliban financier who funds operations and acquires weapons for attacks against coalition forces, including the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack against a coalition forward operating base April 7.
Based on intelligence tips, the security force targeted the facilitator’s compound in the district. The combined security force secured and cleared the targeted area and called all occupants to exit the premises peacefully. After ensuring the safety of all women and children, the force identified and detained the facilitator. No shots were fired during the operation.
Baghlan Province
An Afghan and coalition force detained one suspected insurgent while searching for a Taliban facilitator during a security operation in Baghlan-e Jadid district, Baghlan province, yesterday. The facilitator is an explosives expert operating in the district. He recently constructed suicide vests for use in future attacks by the Baghlan suicide attack network. He is directly responsible for attacks against Afghan National Security forces and assisted in an attack against an Areeba cell phone tower.
The combined force targeted a compound in Baghlan-e Jadid in pursuit of the facilitator. The security force called for all residents to exit the targeted compound. The residents peacefully complied and were interviewed by the security force. One suspected Taliban insurgent was detained for further questioning. No shots were fired and women and children were protected throughout the search.

Helmand Province
In Uruzgan, Kandahar and Helmand provinces, during separate clearing operations, Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF discovered several weapons caches, in Deh Rawud, Arghandab and Marjah districts, today. The caches consisted of 500 7.62 mm rounds, four rocket-propelled grenade rounds, 14 82 mm mortar rounds, two 107 mm rockets, two chest racks, eight mortar fuses, 12 homemade detonators and several improvised explosive device-making components.

In Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, a coalition forces patrol discovered a weapons cache yesterday consisting of two 15-pound (7 kilograms) jugs filled with homemade explosives, three pressure plates, one 60 pound (27 kgs) directional fragmentation charge, two electronic charges with spliced wires and several other IED-making components.

Laghman Province
In Qarghah’i district, Laghman province, a combined Afghan and coalition forces patrol killed several insurgents, yesterday.
The patrol received rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire from an unknown number of insurgents. After gaining positive identification of the insurgent position, the patrol engaged the insurgents with small-arms fire and called for close air support, killing several insurgents.
Ghazni Province
A coalition patrol found a weapons cache in Qarah Bagh district, Ghazni province, yesterday. The cache consisted of 150 pounds (68 kgs) of homemade explosives divided in six different containers, three one-liter cans filled with homemade explosives, five pressure plates, one initiator and several IED-making components.
Also in Ghazni, a coalition patrol discovered a weapons cache consisting of 16 rocket-propelled grenades and 11 82 mm rounds in Ghazni district, yesterday.
