A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed a Taliban leader by the name of Alawuddin in Talah wa Barfak district, Baghlan province Friday.
Alawuddin worked with groups of Taliban fighters to attack Afghan National Police and coalition forces to regain terrain lost by the Taliban. He also directly participated in numerous attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
After tracking the leader throughout the day, the combined security force targeted his compound in the district. The force isolated his compound and an Afghan soldier called all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and were able to secure the safety of 13 women and 14 children. Alawuddin, armed with an AK-47, attacked an Afghan member of the security force. Alawuddin was killed as an Afghan soldier identified the hostile threat and engaged him.
During the search, two of his associates were also detained for further questioning.
Afghan and coalition forces have placed a priority on Taliban operations in Baghlan province in recent months. Combined security forces have been able to capture or kill more than 100 Taliban leaders and insurgents in the province since March of last year.

In Lashkar Gah district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Taliban leader Friday.
The leader conducts IED and direct attacks, targeting Afghan National Police throughout the district.
Based on multiple intelligence sources, the combined security force searched for the leader at a compound in the district. The force isolated the area, where an Afghan member of the force called for all occupants to exit the premises peacefully.
Once the safety of all women and children was secure, the force detained several individuals suspected of participating in Taliban activity in the area.
In Zharay district, Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition force discovered a drug cache yesterday.
The cache consisted of 11,023 pounds (5,000 kilograms) of hashish.
All drugs were destroyed by security forces.
In Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, a three-day operation conducted by an Afghan and coalition force led to discovery of a weapons cache, Friday.
The weapons cache consisted of 33 pressure plates, two AK-47 assault rifles, 600 7.62 mm rounds, one rocket propelled-grenade launcher, four RPGs, one PKM machine gun, several improvised explosive devices, two 105 mm rounds filled with homemade explosives and several IED making materials.
During the operation several insurgents were also detained and taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning.
All the weapons were destroyed by security forces.
East
In Sabari district, Khost province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Haqqani network leader during a security operation Friday.
The Haqqani leader coordinated fighters for attacks and assisted them in ambush preparation against Afghan and coalition forces. He and another senior Haqqani leader managed a large portion of Haqqani fighters in the district.
The leader was captured after the combined security force isolated and conducted a security clearance of his compound. He was identified after the force conducted on-scene interviews with residents.
The force was able to conduct and complete the mission while ensuring the safety of fourteen woman and eight children. No shots were fired during the search.
In Sabari district, Khost province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents during an operation targeting a Haqqani leader Friday.
The leader has participated in direct attacks against Afghan and coalition forces and is involved in coordinating the emplacement of IEDs throughout the district.
Intelligence tips led the security force to search a compound in the district. After isolating the area and having all occupants exit the buildings, the force searched the compound and interviewed the residents, the force identified and detained two suspected Haqqani insurgents further questioning.
No civilians were harmed during the search and no shots were fired.
In Orgun district, Paktika province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected Haqqani insurgents during a clearance operation Friday.
The combined security force conducted a clearance of an area associated with Haqqani activity. Their purpose was to disrupt the Haqqani network and facilitation operations in the district.
During the search the force cleared several buildings looking for any signs of Haqqani activity. While searching the area the force interviewed the residents on-scene and detained two individuals with suspected ties to insurgent activity for further questioning.
No shots were fired during the operation and no civilians were harmed.
West
In Murghab district, Badghis province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a senior Taliban leader along with several of his associates during a security operation Friday.
The insurgent leader is the Taliban appointed deputy governing official for operations in the district. He also conducted attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
The combined security force located the leader at his compound in Murghab district. He was identified after the security force cleared the compound and questioned local residents. During the search, the force identified several individuals with ties to the insurgent leader. They were all detained for further questioning.
While searching the area, the force discovered and safely destroyed a cache of ammonium nitrate.
No civilians were harmed during this operation.
