Headquarters Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force- Afghanistan
KUNAR, Afghanistan (July 2, 2011)– Members of the 2nd Company, 1st Commando Kandak, conducted unilateral clearing operations which resulted in the recovery of a cache in Gambir village, Wataphur district, June 30.
The cache consisted of two bags of homemade explosive, which totaled roughly 50 pounds of calcium chlorate, and one full AK-47 rifle magazine.
The Commandos operation
The Commandos’ presence in enemy safe havens, where little or no Afghan government, Afghan National Security Force, or coalition force presence existed, resulted in their being seen as a professional and reliable force in the eyes of the Afghan people, said a U.S. SOF team sergeant.
This commando operation was a unilateral counter-reconnaissance patrol conducted without help from U.S. SOF. No civilians were injured or property damaged during this operation.
