The facilitator is responsible for coordinating transfers and purchases of lethal aid for insurgents in the area.
During the search, the security force was engaged by several armed insurgents with small arms fire. The security force returned fire, and after ensuring no civilians were in the area, called in an air strike killing numerous insurgents. Several individuals with suspected ties to the Taliban were detained after the engagement.

In Chahar Bolak district, Balkh province, an Afghan and coalition combined security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security search for a Taliban leader, Saturday. The leader is responsible for constructing, resupplying and commanding roadside bomb attacks in Balkh.
South
In Arghandab district, Kandahar province, an Afghan-led security force detained numerous suspected insurgents Saturday while searching for an insurgent leader. The leader directs a cell of fighters responsible for emplacing and distributing weapons and roadside bomb materials in Shah Wali Kot district.
An Afghan-led security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Taliban leader in Qalat district, Zabul province, Saturday. The leader coordinates attacks in the district and works with other leaders to enable operations against Afghan National Security Forces.
In Ghorak district, Kandahar province, an Afghan-led security force conducted a security operation resulting in the detention of two suspected insurgents. The target of this operation was a Taliban leader responsible for roadside bomb attacks and providing military guidance for attack planning.
A combined team of Afghan National Army and coalition Special Operations Forces discovered six improvised explosive devices between Ma’ruf and Kandahar districts in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, July 21.
The forces discovered the IEDs while traveling through three districts in the province. All of the devices discovered were destroyed in place by soldiers from the Afghan National Army.
During their mission, the partnered force also received fire from an unknown number of insurgents. They returned fire and called for air support, killing one insurgent fighter. Following the engagement, the partnered force recovered four AK-47 assault rifles.
“Afghan National Security Forces continue to demonstrate their ability to mitigate insurgent threats and provide security for the people of Afghanistan,” said a member of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan.
No civilian casualties and no property damage resulted from these operations
East
A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained numerous suspected insurgents during a security clearance operation in Sar Hawza district, Paktika province, Saturday. The operation was conducted to clear a known Haqqani network safe haven where Haqqani leaders directed attacks throughout Afghanistan.
In Sabari district, Khost province, an Afghan-led security force detained a Haqqani network leader and one suspected insurgent during an operation, Saturday. The leader was involved in roadside bomb attacks and conducted reconnaissance against the Afghan National Army.
Finally, in Gelan district, Ghazni province, an Afghan-led security force detained one suspected insurgent Saturday while searching for a Taliban facilitator. The facilitator plans attacks and provides logistical support to other insurgents. He also has direct ties to senior al-Qaida members, and arranges escape routes for them to safe havens in Pakistan.
An International Security Assistance Force helicopter crashed in eastern Afghanistan Sunday.
As coalition rescue forces approached the crash site, they came under enemy fire. Coalition forces returned fire, with small arms, while working to secure the site of the crash. All passengers and crew members have been secured and safely transported to a nearby base.
ISAF is currently assessing the incident to determine further facts.
