A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed several insurgents and detained multiple suspected insurgents during an overnight security operation in Sherzad district, Nangarhar province, yesterday.
The target of the operation was an insurgent leader responsible for directing multiple insurgent teams in attacks against Afghan forces.
The Afghan-led security force encountered several armed insurgents as they searched for the leader. While calling for the insurgents to exit, the force spotted the individuals carrying AK-47 rifles and taking up firing positions. An engagement followed, resulting in several insurgents killed.

Sar-e Pul Province
A combined security force killed two insurgents during an operation in Sar-e Pul district, Sar-e Pul province, yesterday.
The operation began after the Afghan-led security force received notification of two insurgents conducting Taliban operations in the area. As the force moved to detain the individuals, one of them reached for a rifle. Responding to the imminent threat, the force engaged the armed individuals and the two were killed. The security force discovered several other AK-47 rifles, chest racks, and loaded magazines while clearing the area.

Paktika Province
A combined security force detained two suspected insurgents during a search for a Haqqani facilitator in Mata Khan district, Paktika province, yesterday.
Khost Province
A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained numerous suspected insurgents in Sabari district, yesterday. The force was looking for a Haqqani leader responsible for coordinating and conducting attacks against the Afghan National Army.

In Sabari yesterday, a combined security force captured a Haqqani facilitator and one of his associates during a security operation. The facilitator was responsible for moving fighters and weapons for Haqqani leaders.

Kandahar Province
In Zharay district, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition force conducted a security operation resulting in one insurgent killed and several others detained.
The combined force discovered the insurgents inside a compound and with assistance of close air support, engaged them, killing one. During the course of the operation, several insurgents were detained by security forces.
No civilians were harmed during the operation.
Helmand Province
In Washer district, Helmand province, today, a combined Afghan and coalition force discovered and seized a drug cache consisting of 220 pounds (100 kilograms) of opium. During the operation two insurgents were detained by security forces.
Bamyan Province
A coalition force discovered and seized a weapons cache today in Kahmard district, Bamyan province consisting of 37 40 mm grenades, 97 hand grenades and 89 fuses.
