Zabul, Afghanistan (August 22, 2011)– Afghan National Army Commandos partnered with coalition Special Operations Forces conducted a clearing operation near the Karatashe Ulya village, Sha Joy district, August 15.
Commandos led the operation, detaining three insurgent suspects and confiscating one AK-47, one load bearing vest and four AK-47 magazines, according to official reports.
"The local villagers were very supportive of our operation. They are eager to see insurgents leave their communities,” he said.
Following the operation the partnered force met with village elders and key leaders to discuss the importance of continuing security operations during Ramadan and to reemphasize the Afghan government’s dedication to providing security for the Afghan people.
During the meeting, village elders expressed support for the Afghan Local Police program and other security initiatives facilitated by the Government of Afghanistan.
"We are willing to engage with Afghan National Security Forces in honestly assessing the security of our villages. We know that insurgents are to blame for our security troubles, "said a shura leader.
Official reports state Karatashe Ulya village has historically been utilized as an insurgent safe haven and planning area for attacks against Afghan National Security Forces.
The presence of the Commandos in this region will continue to keep pressure on the insurgent planning areas attributed to attacks on ANSF, said a coalition Special Operations team leader.
"The Commandos, along with the ALP, show the local citizens that they are sincerely committed to the population’s security. Not only do they want to help deter insurgency, they also care about building relationships with local leaders and connecting the population to the Government of Afghanistan," the team leader also said.
