War in Afghanistan News reports provided by ISAF Joint Command. Operations are reported in the following provinces: Kapisa, Paktiya, Faryab, Helmand, Khost, Kandahar, Uruzgan and Herat.
In Mahmud-e Raqi district, Kapisa province, a combined Afghan and coalition force discovered a weapons cache, today. The cache consisted of one AK-47 rifle, four AK-47 magazines, nine anti-personnel mines, 29 30mm rockets, two hand grenades, 45 23mm shells, two recoilless rifles and 13 fuses.

Paktiya Province
An Afghan and coalition combined security force killed two Haqqani network insurgents and detained seven suspected insurgents during a security operation in Zurmat district, Paktiya province.
The target of this operation was a Haqqani leader who conducts, coordinates, and directs roadside bomb and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces in the district.
While containing the targeted location, the combined security force received heavy machinegun fire from the two insurgents who were barricaded nearby. The force responded with small arms fire, which escalated as the insurgents continued with an onslaught of heavy fire. Finally, as a force protection measure, the security team called in airstrikes to neutralize the insurgents barricaded in the compound. Two insurgents were killed as a result. After the engagement, the security force confiscated two Russian PK machineguns from the deceased insurgents.
Reports from locals, following the engagement, indicated the insurgents had been repeatedly harassing citizens throughout the day. Additionally, they added, the insurgents forcibly removed the owner and his family from the compound, which the insurgents later used as a barricaded fighting position.
Faryab Province
In Almar and Qaisar districts, Faryab province a combined Afghan and coalition security force killed four insurgents during a security clearance targeting Taliban operations in the area.
Throughout the early morning, the security force observed several insurgents conducting Taliban associated activities in the local area. As the force attempted to secure the area several engagements broke out, resulting in four insurgents killed.
Throughout this daytime operation the security force was careful to ensure the safety of all civilians.
Helmand Province
A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained one individual with suspected ties to the Taliban during a search for an insurgent leader in Kajaki district, Helmand province.
The leader is the Taliban appointed governing official for operations in Sangin District. He is directly involved with the planning and execution of asymmetric attacks against Afghan and coalitions security forces.

Khost Province
In Sabari district, Khost province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Haqqani Network leader and one of his associates during a security search. The detained leader was responsible for directing roadside bomb and direct actions attacks in the district.
Kandahar Province
An Afghan and coalition combined security force captured a Taliban facilitator and one suspected insurgent during a security operation in Kandahar city, Kandahar province.
The facilitator is responsible for roadside bomb placements targeting Afghan National Security Forces in Kandahar city and Arghandab district.
Also.....
In Arghandab district, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained three suspected insurgents during a security operation targeting a Taliban leader.
The leader is a tactical level Taliban chief, responsible for roadside bomb placements and attack coordination for a local cell in the area.The security force also confiscated 40 pounds (18 kilograms) of opium while at the targeted compound.

A combined Afghan and International Security Assistance Force patrol killed several insurgents and detained numerous others during an operation targeting an insurgent network in Wali Kot district, Kandahar province, yesterday. The network is directly responsible for supplying lethal aid used against ANSF and coalition forces.
The detainees were taken in by Afghan Security Forces for further questioning.
Also in Wali Kot district, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition force patrol killed two insurgents during an operation targeting an insurgent network, Thursday. The operation seized and safely destroyed a cache of small arms.
Uruzgan Province
A combined Afghan and coalition force discovered and seized a weapons cache consisting of 13 rocket propelled grenades launchers, in Tarin Kot district, Uruzgan province, today. The cache will be destroyed at a later date.
Herat Province
A combined Afghan and coalition patrol killed multiple insurgents during a patrol in Zarghun district, Herat province, yesterday. The insurgents were killed after firing at the patrol. Following the firefight, several suspected insurgents were detained and taken in by Afghan Security Forces for further questioning.
In addition, the patrol seized and safely destroyed a cache of small arms.
